What does the Sandbox offer over the other makerspaces on campus?
The sandbox provides a distinctive ocean-focused slant on the traditional makerspace. Alongside standard makerspace equipment, we offer specialized facilities such as a test tank and an environmental testing chamber, designed to enhance the prototyping experience with an ocean and environmental emphasis. Additionally, the smaller size of our makerspace creates a more intimate setting, fostering collaboration and building a strong sense of community among frequent visitors.

What is the role of staff at the Sandbox?
The staff at the Sandbox are here to support you in your creative endeavors, regardless of your experience level. They are available to meet you where you are and provide the assistance you need. Don’t hesitate to ask for help, as the space is designed for learning. If you are already certified to use a tool, staff will simply oversee to ensure the machines are being used safely.
Can I bring food/drink into the makerspace?
Food and drink are not allowed inside of the makerspace. Water Bottles with a closed lid are acceptable, but we kindly ask that any open container drinks be placed in the designated area upon check in. If you do need to eat while visiting we have picnic tables located outside.
